Text Shadow Exam BADN is independent and non-political, supporting no specific political party – the only people we support are dental nurses! – and BADN Membership is open to dental nurses of any (or no) political opinion. Nor do we give members’ money away to any political party or entity.

About BADN

BADN was founded in Leyland (Lancashire) in 1940 by dentist Philip Grundy and his dental nurse Madeleine (Bunty) Winter, and was originally called the British Dental Nurses’ and Assistants’ Society. This later became the Association of British Dental Surgery Assistants and, in 1994, the British Association of Dental Nurses.

BADN is politically independent, with no party political or TUC affiliations. We pride ourselves on transparency - our independently audited annual accounts are made available to our members and to the Certification Office. BADN is about teamwork – the Executive Committee and staff work together to support and promote dental nurses and the dental nursing profession. Whilst the President is of course the most visible member of the Executive, decisions are made in Committee through discussion and consensus – with the views of all Committee members considered equally. The Exec Committee are also guided by the AGM or, in other words, the members themselves. Exec Committee members serve a specific term of office, and the number of times they can hold that office are limited. Any member who meets the criteria set out in the Constitution may stand for office at the appropriate time.

BADN® is run by an elected Executive Committee, composed of working dental nurses, who give up their free time and who receive no monetary reward, in order to take the dental nursing profession forward.
