Monica’s career in dental nursing and practice management started in 1996. Since then she has gained qualifications in:-
- NEBDN National Certificate for Dental Nurses
- Certificate in Radiography
- Dentrain Oral Health Education Certificate
- BTEC Professional Diploma in Dental Practice Management
- Further Adult Education Teaching Certificate
- Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Certificate
- BA (Hons) Professional Studies
Monica is an accredited NEBDN National Diploma Tutor and teaches students of all abilities, throughout Kent. She is also currently completing her FGDP in Key Skills as well as updating CPD. As a full time Practice Manager of 4 NHS Dental Surgeries, she has a commitment to staff and patients, to deliver the best service possible. She would love to study Implant Nursing, Sedation and Special Care Dental Nursing as well as Accountancy and in any spare time, she researches her family tree.
Monica took up her role as Seconded Member for Practice Management & Reception at the AGM in October 2013.
Tell us about your early life……
I grew up in Swanscombe Kent, leaving school I decided to join a YTS (Youth Training Scheme) on £17 a week, this started me into a career of secretarial and administration duties. After becoming a PA (employers wife was a dental surgeon), I began to gain an interest in dental accounts and admin, thus providing me a real background for anything dentistry.
What jobs did you do before you became a dental nurse?
Personal Assistant and Book Keeper 1986 – 1996
Chairman for Parents Teachers Association 2004 – 2008
Board Of Governor for a local Independent School 2006 – 2008
Post Mistress of Kennington Post Office 2009 – 2012
We purchased a new surgery, which happened to be connected to a post office, so a new challenge – we now rent out the post office

Where do you live now and with whom?
I live in Gravesend Kent with my partner Peter Chopra and two boys Joshua who is 13 and Jamie who is 11
What about hobbies?
Reading mainly biographies, dental books, teaching books and publications
Studying varied studies including continuing professional development
Courses attending variety of courses including:-
teaching, nursing, accounting and business management
Children I have two young boys who are very active and intellectual, as a family we
love cultural and historical related issues, as well as outings, cinema and family life – and of course everything dentistry
Tell us five things about yourself that most people probably don’t know:
- I am 47 years old
- I left school with no A or B CSE’s
- I started typing when I was 11
- I was a school PTA Chairman and Governor
- I have two guinea pigs, 2 cockatiels, 1 lovebird and a Mynah Bird
My 11 year old just said ‘mum you are amazing’
