75th Anniversary Tea
BADN CELEBRATES 75 YEARS OF SUPPORTING DENTAL NURSES
The British Association of Dental Nurses (BADN), the UK’s only professional association for dental nurses, celebrated its 75th birthday with an Anniversary Afternoon Tea at the Hilton Metropole today (24 October 2015), sponsored by the Community Dental Service-CIC, the University of Kent and Source1UK.
Dental nurses from across the country joined BADN President Jane Dalgarno, together with Past Presidents and former Deputy Chief Dental Officer Sue Gregory for tea, finger sandwiches and cakes – and a glass of fizz – to celebrate 75 years of supporting dental nurses.
The event even had royal approval – in a letter from Buckingham Palace Her Majesty sent “ her best wishes to all concerned for a most memorable and enjoyable afternoon”.
After the cutting of the birthday cake, Sue Gregory, Chair of Community Dental Services-CIC, spoke briefly about the BADN’s 75 year history, and her support for the new President, whom she described as “a dedicated dental professional with a calm determination to continue to further the work of BADN and the quality of dental nursing” before proposing the toast “The British Association of Dental Nurses and its President”. The President then presented Past Presidents, together with current Chief Executive Pam Swain, with a commemorative 75th anniversary brooch, sponsored by Alkapharm.
In a surprise presentation, the President received bouquets of flowers from Tempdent, the Cambridge Dental Nursing Academy, Dental Nurse Training? Solutions!, the University of Kent, the Community Dental Service and the Dental Laboratories Association/British Association of Clinical Dental Technicians.
Everyone attending the Tea took home table gifts of dental keyrings and gift bags of products supplied by Robinson Healthcare. One lucky guest at each table won the beautiful floral centerpiece to take home; the President presented the centerpiece from the top table to the senior Past President at the Tea, 95 year old Ethel Lote of Walsall.
President Jane Dalgarno, who had taken up the post earlier that day at the Presidential Inauguration ceremony held at the NEC, alongside the BDIA Dental Showcase, said “It has been a pleasure to host such an auspicious event, in the company of a number of Past BADN Presidents and members – thank you all for coming. I should also like to thank our sponsors the Community Dental Service CIC, the University of Kent, Source1UK, Robinson Healthcare and Alkapharm.”
