NATIONAL DENTAL NURSING CONFERENCE 201
The 2016 National Dental Nursing Conference will be held on 28 and 29 October at the Blackpool Hilton.
The Conference will start on Friday with the Welcome Lunch (first time delegates and new BADN members will be invited to join the President at lunch), followed by the Opening Ceremony at which Deputy Chief Dental Officer Eric Rooney will be the Keynote Speaker. Attendees then have the choice of two presentations in each time slot:
- The Sound of Periodontitis – Professor Ian Needleman, Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Evidence-Based Healthcare at UCL Eastman Dental Institute and Honorary Consultant in Periodontology with UCLH
- What Does Advanced Dental Nursing Really Mean? – John Darby, Associate Dean at KSS Health Education England
- How Can Mentoring be Used to Support Dental Nurses’ Learning in the Workplace?, followed by a Mentoring Workshop – BADN President Jane Dalgarno
Saturday’s programme starts with a plenary GDC Update session by Matthew Hill, Director of Strategy at the GDC, followed again by a choice of two presentations in each time slot:
- CyberSecurity : The Do’s and Don’t’s on Online – cyber guru Martin Ayrton
- Ethics and Professionalism in Social Media – Dental Circle’s Amit Patel
- Oral Cancer – Dr Patel again!
- The Perils of being a CQC Registered Manager – CQC’s John Milne
- Novice to Expert Practice for Dental Nurses – BADN Chair and Head of Centre for Professional Practice, University of Kent
and finishing with the Closing Ceremony when President Jane Dalgarno will note attendees’ professional achievements over the past 12 months.
The BADN AGM will be held on Friday at 4.30pm – this is open to current members only (see below).
Attendees are free to enjoy the sights and sounds of Blackpool (and its famous Illuminations) on Friday night – or they can join President Jane Dalgarno, the BADN Executive Committee, and staff at an informal dinner at local restaurant Twelve (www.twelve-restaurant.co.uk), with music by the Blue Pig Orchestra. Dinner costs £35 per person, with an additional £5 per person for the coach to and from the restaurant.
Dental nurses (and other members of the dental team) may attend Friday, Saturday or both days. Registration fees include lunch and refreshments, CPD certificate, Conference Handbook and lecture programme. There are discounts for current BADN members, and for those registering early:
Friday only (booked before 9 Sept 16): £35 (£40 to non-members)
Saturday only (booked before 9 Sept 16): £50 (£55 to non-members)
Friday and Saturday (booked before 9 Sept 16): £80 (£90 to non-members)
Priority emails to register on line for Conference will be sent out to those on our distribution lists at the end of July; general registration will be open through a link here in early August. Payment by credit/debit card is required at time of registration (payments will be taken off line in the BADN office).

BADN ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The BADN AGM will be held on Friday 28 October at 4.30pm at the Blackpool Hilton. Motions for the AGM, and items for discussion under Any Other Business must reach the Chief Executive (firstname.lastname@example.org) by close of business on 3 October 2016. The AGM is open to current members only – anyone attending the AGM who is not attending the Conference is requested to inform email@example.com giving their name and BADN membership number.
Nominations for President 2017-19
Nominations are requested for the role of President 2017-2019 (President-elect 2016=2017). Nominees must be Registered Dental Nurses who have been Full BADN Members for more than three years. Please contact the Chief Exec (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information and a nomination form – completed forms must reach the Chief Executive by close of business on 31 August 2016.
