‘All I Want for Christmas’ Dental Day in Blackpool – Carole Houston, Karl Gippert and Adrian Oddy, Saturday 17th November 2018 1045-1145
Carole Houston is the Communications and Marketing Lead for Delphi Medical, a leading provider of drug and alcohol support services including a residential detox and rehabilitation unit in Lancaster.
Carole has responsibility for communications on the ‘Horizon’ contract which is funded by Blackpool Council. Horizon provides drug, alcohol and non-clinical sexual health support for Blackpool residents with a specialist team dealing with the LGTB Community and another team supporting victims of domestic and sexual abuse.
Carole has worked in the field of Public Relations for almost 30 years, more recently in the field of addiction dependency.
Karl Gippert and Adrian Oddy are shining examples of recovery from substance abuse. Both have a long history of heroin addiction and the lifestyle that goes with the territory, but they have turned their lives around as a result of engaging with services and working towards a life worth living.
Karl and Adi will be speaking openly about how addiction affected their teeth and the detrimental effect it had on their lives.
To raise awareness of the importance of dental care for vulnerable people who go under the radar of many dental professionals.
- To explain the effects of addiction and alcoholism on teeth and the associated mental health issues
- To describe what these vulnerable people are coping with
- To demonstrate the enormous need for this service around the country
Blackpool has the worst statistics in the country with regards to deprivation, drug addiction, and alcoholism. Dental care is often at the bottom of the list of needs for vulnerable people, but for one day only we brought it to the top.
This presentation will illustrate the ‘All I Want for Christmas’ campaign which took place in Blackpool in November 2017 and will be repeated this year on December 1st.
