Enhanced Continuing Professional Development rules are sealed for approval
The enhanced CPD scheme is designed to support dental professionals gain maximum benefit from CPD activities. The scheme encourages a proactive approach to planning CPD around a professional’s learning and maintenance needs, field of practice and the standards for the dental team before they undertake CPD activity. Dental professionals use their personal development plan to help identify CPD needs for their cycle.
The first group of registrants to move over to the new scheme are dentists in January 2018. ECPD is being introduced for some registrants who are mid-way through their current CPD cycle. They will have to comply with the requirements of both the current scheme and the ECPD scheme to be compliant at the end of their cycle. Transitional arrangements have been made for those impacted and to support registrants, we have developed an online transitional tool which shows how much CPD needs to be completed during transition to be complaint at the end of their cycle, making transitioning simpler to understand. ECPD guidance will also be issued this autumn.
