A bright future heralded for ortho team members

*Allied Health Professionals Programme at BOC 2017:
15-16 September.  Early bird closes 1 July*

Back to the Future is the theme of the British Orthodontic Conference in 2017 and the two-day programme for allied health professionals will leave delegates in no doubt of the important part they have play in the future of orthodontics.

A packed two-day programme has been planned by the Orthodontic National Group (ONG), the organisation for orthodontic nurses and orthodontic therapists affiliated to the British Orthodontic Society. At the conference, Debra Worthington, the current Chair will take over as President while Sally Dye, an orthodontic therapist, takes over as Chair.

Debra commented: “It’s the first time that ONG has had an orthodontic therapist as Chair. This reflects the growth in the number of orthodontic therapists as well as the growth in their influence. We believe that having an orthodontic therapist and nurse working together as Chair and President is something to be celebrated.”

Steve Chadwick, an orthodontic consultant is the current President of ONG and also a speaker on the programme and his topic is: Crystal Balls and astrology combined; a glimpse into the future for dental care. Many other well known speakers in the world of UK orthodontics will be giving their insights into key issues that concern members of the orthodontic team today alongside practical guidance and clinical techniques. Topics include:

  • The orthognathic patient journey
  • Early Class III protraction treatment
  • Orthodontic therapy – living the dream
  • What makes some dental care professionals brilliant?
  • Preparing for dental medical emergencies (Core CPD)
  • What do about compliance
  • Trauma tears and transplants

On the last day of the conference, delegates in the Allied Health Professionals programme will join the main scientific programme for an uplifting talk by motivational speaker Joy Marsden.

As ever, a busy exhibition and social activities will give delegates plenty of scope for catching up on the latest in orthodontic equipment and supplies as well as with friends and colleagues.

Early Bird registration for BOC 2017 which takes place at Manchester Conference Centre 14-16 September 2017, is open until 1 July.  Visit www.bos.org.uk/BOC-Manchester-2017 for full details and booking.
