DONT JUST ASSUME YOU ARE COVERED!!

Janet Collins, Head of Standards at the GDC, advised dental nurses who are relying on indemnity arranged by their employer that they “have a responsibility to check the indemnity position with them” in the August edition of “The Probe”.  “Dont just assume that you are covered by your employer’s arrangements.  Always check as you will have to provide proof of your cover if a patient decides to make a claim against you, or inthe event that a complaint about your fitness to practise is made to the GDC.”

Ms Collins went on to explain that the GDC expect by October 2013 to have the power to require proof of insurance as a condition of being registered to practise – the GDC would be able to check a registrant’s indemnity status when they apply for registration, renew registration or at any other time.
