General Dental Council Election of New Chair

 

Kevin O’Brien has today been elected as Chair of the GDC with immediate effect.  He takes on the role in a permanent capacity, replacing Derek Prentice who was elected Deputy Chair earlier this year. Kevin has been an appointed registrant member of Council since 2009.

A dentist, Kevin O’Brien was born in Edinburgh and is now based in Manchester Dental School where he is Professor of Orthodontics. He was the dean of the dental school from 2004-2007 and associate dean of the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences from 2007-2010.

He has previously worked with the GDC in the roles of chair of the specialist dental education board and a member of the strategic review of undergraduate training. He has also been Chair of the GDC’s Education Committee.
